How do the Kentucky Colonels raise the money they distribute to charitable groups?
In many respects, the Honorable Order does not “raise money”. Our social events are presented as a service to our members… nor do we have “annual dues”. The funds we work with are all voluntarily contributed by Kentucky Colonels and friends of Colonels around the world. Are Colonel certificates awarded to deceased individuals?
On rare occasions commissions have been bestowed posthumously. Stephen Collins Foster was commissioned in 1940. However, the general rule is the individual must be breathing.
How can I replace my Kentucky Colonel card?
Membership cards are issued annually from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels headquarters. Because of the enormous expense involved, cards are only issued to Colonels who have participated in the Good Works Program during the past 3 years.
Can I replace my lost or damaged Kentucky Colonel certificate?Yes. Submit proof of commission to the Governor’s office. Please note that the new certificate will carry the current date as the date of issue. The sitting Governor’s signature will appear on the certificate. Address your inquiries to Lora Quire, Room 8, Governor’s Office, State Capital, Frankfort, KY 40601. Requests should be made in writing.
Where can I obtain a decal for my car?
Decals are sent to Colonels who participate in the Good Works Program with a $25 or more contribution and who make the request at the time of the contribution. You may purchase decals through the Emporium.

Are Colonel certificates issued to dogs, cats, mascots, etc?
So you heard about the “jokester” who got his dog commissioned some years back. That was a true story and not only did the dog get demoted, so did its owner.

I was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel and I never receive anything in the mail like other people do?

What rights, privileges, etc does being a Kentucky Colonel have?
Kentucky Colonels are known and respected worldwide. This respect was earned by the multitude of Colonels who have exhibited the qualities that earned them their commission. Kentucky Colonels are ambassadors of good will and fellowship and do not seek special privileges.
Does being a Colonel entitle me to Derby tickets?
You’re kidding right? Just in case you aren’t kidding, the answer is no. HOWEVER, active members of the Honorable Order have the opportunity to attend the Derby by participating in the Kentucky Colonels Derby Extravaganza. The Extravaganza ticket package includes tickets to the Derby. See the Kentucky Derby story in Events section of the web site.
Is there a Who’s Who list of Colonels available?
Every mass marketer in the world would like to have such a list – that’s why it isn’t available. Of course, we do occasionally drop Colonels names such as Muhammad Ali or Senator John Glenn.
Are the charities in Kentucky only?
The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels is directed to be “…a great non-political brotherhood for the advancement of Kentucky and Kentuckians.” The Good Works Program works toward that goal.
